Infants and Toddlers

The activities provided for very young children at HCCC revolve around their individual needs for food, sleep, nurturing, movement, language and trust. The teachers work to create a curriculum and environment where these needs are met. The room design and daily schedule of these two rooms reflects this focus.

Infant Room

Daily curriculum activities include but are not limited to: physical needs being met (feeding, changing diapers, etc.), fine motor opportunities (reaching and grabbing for toys, stacking objects), gross motor opportunities (crawling, rolling, floor time), language experiences (singing, books, conversations), holding, rocking and plenty of “face time”.

Toddler Room

Daily curriculum activities focus on children learning through their play. These include but are not limited to: physical needs being met (feeding, changing diapers, learning to self-feed and other independent skills), fine motor opportunities (soft blocks, art, lacing cards, stacking toys, sensory tables), gross motor opportunities (outside play, running, dancing, climbing, riding and pushing toys), language experiences (singing, books, pictures, music, talking and socializing), social interactions (dramatic play, role playing), holding, rocking and plenty of “face time”. Outside time on the playground, walks around town in the carriages or buggies, are daily events, weather permitting. During inclement weather, older infants and toddlers play with balls, riding and pushing toys, soft mats and other developmentally appropriate toys in Jordan Hall.
